Hi! My name is Shilpi Ganguly and I am an MS4 at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. I have a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering with a second major in Spanish and minor in Aerospace Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, and an M.S. in Modern Human Anatomy from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Currently I sit on the executive boards for the University of Miami Emergency Medicine Student Association and Wilderness Medicine Student Interest Group. I also sit on the executive board for Women in Aerospace Medicine, a subsection and diversity initiative of the Aerospace Medicine Student and Resident Organization.

My personal interests in wilderness medicine lay within the fields of polar, mountain, tactical, and space medicine. I was first introduced to wilderness medicine back in 2016 while climbing in the Everest region of Nepal. Notable experiences since then include working on a NASA funded research grant investigating the effects of microgravity on microbe proliferation and it's effects on human health in space in 2017. The project launched to ISS November 2019 on NG-12, and returned to Earth on January 2020 on SpaceX-19. In 2018 I assisted in the diagnosis and care of a climber on Kilimanjaro who suffered from acute onset HAPE/HACE. In 2019 I was as an assistant to the ship physician on an expedition vessel down to Antarctica. While on ice, I worked with various Antarctic base physicians and assisted in two medical evacuations.

I am extremely passionate about wilderness medicine and am the master-mind behind this multi-week multi-speaker wilderness extravaganza! I am super excited to be sharing this project and my passions with all of you, and I am even more excited by the prospects of what this can become.
